Catullus Carmen 5

Let us live, my Lesbia and let us love.
The gossiping of grumpy old men
Is worth a single penny to us.
The sun can set and rise again
But once our brief light is set
Night is one eternal sleep.
Give me a thousand kisses, then a hundred
Then another thousand, a second hundred
Then yet another thousand, another hundred.
Then, when thousands have created
Such confusion even we don’t know
And those who wish us ill can’t be jealous
By knowing how many kisses we’ve shared.

Vivamus mea Lesbia, atque amemus,
rumoresque senum severiorum
omnes unius aestimemus assis!
soles occidere et redire possunt:
nobis cum semel occidit brevis lux,
nox est perpetua una dormienda.
da mi basia mille, deinde centum,
dein mille altera, dein secunda centum,
deinde usque altera mille, deinde centum.
dein, cum milia multa fecerimus,
conturbabimus illa, ne sciamus,
aut ne quis malus inuidere possit,
cum tantum sciat esse basiorum.
